In the 16th century, the famous kabbalist R. Isaac Luria revealed the correlation between the supernatural energies of the Seven Species and the seven emotive attributes of the human soul.  

The Seven Species are listed in the book of Deuteronomy where the Land of Israel is described as “a land of wheat, and barley, and grapes, and figs, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey (dates)….”
